Potential aspects of the role
Taking a deeper dive ...
This is not a description of what one person (or indeed angel!) will do - more an outline of the type of things that need to be done between us in order to run Sheldon. There is reasonable scope for shaping the role to fit the gifts and graces of the successful applicant.
Someone willing to develop a deep understanding of our multi-layered organisation - the whole is more than the sum of its parts, and all the parts contribute to creating a healing and restful environment for guests who may be here at times of difficulty or distress. Your demeanour will be calm, helpful and creative.
Someone with a supportive approach to the needs of colleagues to make sure that the back office and the IT systems serve the front end hospitality roles effectively.
We need to do things like organise supplier contracts, forecast budgets, promote our resources, communicate with supporters, raise funds, maintain premises compliance, insurance, researching products, quartermastering, banking compliance, audit, solicit and analyse feedback, HMRC compliance, safeguarding, HR, payroll, retail, waste disposal, policies and risk assessments, managing websites. All the back office things it takes to keep a medium-size enterprise running smoothly - a richly varied set of responsibilities with no two days the same.
In front line telephone or reception work you will be able to explain clearly what Sheldon offers, take details accurately, read between the lines, and know your own boundaries where to action and where to refer on. The smooth running of the front office should be kind, warm, helpful and respectful.Robust safeguarding of the confidentiality of guests is required.
Someone with a nose for noticing something isn't quite right and creatively solving reported problems whether it's a thing or a process, a supply or a need. This may require subject-specific research, good record-keeping and a persistent focus working both independently and collaboratively across long timescales. We are a good way through transferring our systems to paperless and always keen to find ways of improving them for ease of collaboration and longevity.
Other involvement with the Sheldon ministry may include direct hospitality (meals, cooking, bar, accommodation changeovers) and indirect (gardens, animals, grounds, running repairs, re-decoration, etc).
